Nurses Week is a yearly celebration beginning on May 6th and ending on May 12th that honors the nursing profession. This year, we’re celebrating each day by turning the spotlight on one of our very own healthcare heroes! Read on to learn more about Paula Mitchell, RN & Rhonda Walker, RN – a fun, energetic traveling nurse duo we’re lucky to have on our team!
Paula: I like seeing how other facilities work and how they differ from the hospital I came from. I also like meeting new people and the travel aspect, going to new places and seeing the sites.
Rhonda: It gives me the opportunity to meet people from so many different places while also giving me opportunities for new experiences on each assignment.
Paula: My career has grown by leaning new things, meeting new people and incresing my knowledge base. I am a firm believer that we learn something new everyday and travel nursing offers that opportunity.
Rhonda: Variety in healthcare facilities brings a wealth of new experiences for an “old” nurse & new experiences foster learning and growth, both professionally & personally.
Paula: I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and I have a shoe fetish.
Rhonda: I can’t stand to sit still – I’ll trade the TV for the outdoors any day. Also, other people’s feet creep me out.
Paula: The thing I have learned is that not all nurses and physicians know that a continuous bladder irrigation system can be called a Murphy Drip. We don’t always speak the same language.
Rhonda: When you pay the toll to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel, you must pay the toll again to come back across….so $14 + $14 = $28 round trip 😆
Paula: Nursing has opened my eyes to the needs of others, helped me to meet people where they are and help them through the good times and the bad. I find myself more accepting and open to change.
Rhonda: It has given me insight to the diverse lives of others while affording me the opportunity to be the hands & feet of service for Jesus.
