Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and love music and singing. I am a member of a community choir called ABOC (Anointed Bodies of Christ) who travel across the nation singing gospel music. One interesting fact in my life with the choir is that we were invited by a Mississippi representative to sing in Washington at the Annual Gospel Extravaganza.

Technology has grown the possibilities in nursing by leaps and bounds. What technology have you seen that has had the largest impact on nursing?

The world was devastated by the pandemic in 2020. One thing positive that has come out of the 2020 pandemic, we are able to reach more people that require healthcare more than before by utilizing technology through platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and TeleMed. We were able to continue to provide healthcare consistently and safely within our communities.

It’s no secret that nurses often put their needs aside to help others. How has nursing changed you for the better?

Being a nurse has changed me in that I am a better communicator and leader in my field. Whether communicating with patients, doctors, fellow nurses, or other professionals, being able to communicate efficiently and effectively to best do my job and create a positive outcome for my patients. It is even more important when in a leadership role.

What has been the most rewarding moment that you’ve experienced as a nurse?

It is always rewarding when you see a former patient in the community and doing well. It Is also rewarding when they remember you and are very grateful for the care you gave them.

What has been your favorite part about being a travel nurse and what are the benefits of traveling vs. being staff?

I enjoy being a travel nurse. Your schedule is flexible, and you get to explore places you may never have experienced. My love for art developed while being a travel nurse.

Who would you consider your nurse hero and what do you admire about them?

I would consider the nurses I work beside day today to be my heroes! I have been a nurse for over 20 years, and I learned from many of my colleagues, young as well as old, techniques and practices to help better patients’ outcomes. It’s a team effort.
