Nursing License Renewal Reminder

Nursing License Renewal Reminder

My name is Angela Totora. I have taken the position as the Director of Nursing here at Advantage Medical Professionals. I would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season. I hope each of you takes time to relax and enjoy family and friends throughout this season. Don’t forget your license renewal is coming up soon.

Most states require nurses to complete some form of continuing education every two to three years as a condition of licensure. In Louisiana, an RN who has worked 1,600 or more hours during 2018 must have five Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for each year to renew. Since Louisiana has moved to a two-year renewal, your requirement will be 10 CEUs when you renew after the two years. If you work 160 – 1,599 hours the requirement is 10 CEUs for each year, and working 159 or fewer hours requires 15 CEUs for each year. Online renewal applications are available now through Jan 31, 2019. Even though you can renew through January, as of December 31, 2018, you will be considered expired. Don’t get caught with an expired license this results in an additional fee and the possibility of not being able to work. To submit your online renewal for Louisiana, visit the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. If you have licensure outside of Louisiana visit your state of licensure’s board of nursing for renewal details.

LPNs, remember your license expires Jan 31, 2019. You can submit an online application now. Your state board will no longer be issuing a paper license. Nursys.com will conduct all confirmations.

Numerous sites offer free or discounted continuing education courses, such as Nurse.com/ce and Medscape.org/nurses
