Clinician's Corner August

In this month's Clinical Corner, Director of Clinical Services Bobby Cupp RN BSN discusses safety tips for the hot month of August.

It Is HOT, HOT, HOT! Here Are A Few Safety Tips For The Summer:

  1. Stay Hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids either at work or while out having fun; heatstroke can come on quickly and unexpectedly.

  2. Keep an eye on the weather. Those short summer thunderstorms can bring on some pretty nasty weather, be careful especially if you live in areas that are prone to flooding.

  3. Water safety is a must. At the beach, the lake or around the pool, be mindful especially with kids, adults too.

  4. Always use sunscreen. Use it often and reapply frequently.

  5. Watch out for all those things that bite and sting. If it flies, swims, crawls, it might bite or sting, be mindful of these creepy, crawly things. Keep yourself protected.

  6. Besides protecting yourself and your family, don’t forget about your car. The harsh temperatures can be hard on your vehicle. Be sure coolant levels are correct, oil is changed at the appropriate intervals, tires are inflated properly, nothing can mess up a vacation like a broken down car.

  7. Food safety. This is always important for those weekend barbeques. Heat can spoil foods quickly and this can cause illness. Make sure all foods are refrigerated as needed.
